What We Can Work On During the Intensive
- Lyric Study & Text Analysis: breaking down what the song is actually saying, key words and phrases, subtext, shifts in thought, and why each lyric matters.
- Character & Point of View: figuring out who you are in the song, who you’re speaking to, what has happened before the song begins, what you want from the other person, and what changes throughout the piece.
- Emotional Connection: finding truthful emotional stakes without simply trying to “act sad” or “act angry,” and connecting the lyrics to an intention that feels authentic and repeatable.
- Storytelling & Musical Interpretation: shaping phrasing, dynamics, pauses, emphasis, tempo and vocal choices around the story rather than just singing the notes correctly.
- Vocal Technique: tackling the specific technical challenges of the chosen repertoire so the performer can execute their choices consistently and healthily.
- Physical Performance & Stage Presence: movement, stillness, gestures, eye line, facial expression, confidence, audience connection, and making physical choices feel intentional.
- Performance Arc: making sure the song builds somewhere, from where it begins through the emotional or dramatic shift to where it lands.
- Polish & Repetition: running and refining the material until the vocal, acting, emotional and physical choices start working together naturally.
- Masterclass Performance: bringing the finished piece into the room, performing it in front of an audience, receiving final feedback and testing the work under actual performance pressure.
