How to Stay Strong in the Music Industry

Yes, the Music Industry is hard!

A Career in Music will challenge you to your core. Every time you step on stage, release a song, or share your work, you’re being asked to prove yourself.

That’s tough on the ego!

One of the most important things I want to help cultivate in my clients (and for myself)!! is unshakeable faith!

Because, let’s be real, this industry will test your confidence again and again..

which brings us to an important subject…

Self-Support for Artists

The secret to surviving and thriving in the music industry? Self-Support! Confidence doesn’t just appear… It’s built through daily actions, celebrating our small wins, and embracing discomfort as part of the journey.

Why is This Job Harder?

Because singing isn’t just about technique; it’s deeply emotional and personal. That’s why prioritizing your mental and emotional well-being is just as crucial as training your voice.

Let’s talk about how to build that foundation so you can stand strong… no matter what the industry throws your way.

Building Your Emotional Resilience 101!

Practice self-compassion. Even in an industry as tough as this one, we are often our harshest critics. Talk to yourself and about yourself like you would a dear friend. Be loving. Be kind. Be empathetic. (Don’t you deserve that kind of support?)

Detach your self-worth from your performance. While feedback is valuable, it is important not to let criticism or negative comments define your self-worth. We must remember that our value is not dependent on how well we sing or how many ‘likes’ we get on a social post. Every “no” is an opportunity to dig in for your skill sets. Artists at the top of their game use negative feedback as useful information to help them grow!

Say ‘NO’ to Comparison! Comparison and Competition steals joy. Focus on your unique journey and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. As artists, we each have our own voice, our own story, and our own magic to share… and there’s room for all of us! Instead of competing, take time to focus on how far you’ve come. You want every step forward to help build faith in your abilities!

Balance Passion with Rest Being prepared for a gig will help combat stage fright, but over-practicing can make you more anxious! Plus, vocal fatigue and burnout are real! Set limits to protect your voice and mental health. Get enough sleep, and make sure you eat! Taking care of the bodies we inhabit is something many of us artist types forget about… but a well-rested and well-nourished body supports emotional stability AND creativity. Give yourself breaks! Engage in activities outside of music to maintain balance and perspective!

Build a Support System We talk a lot about self-support, but having an external support system is also important. Surround yourself with mentors, friends, or fellow singers who uplift you. If you find yourself struggling with mental health, you’re not alone! Seeking professional help can provide tools to manage stress and emotional challenges.

You’ve Got This!

The music industry will test you, but your strength comes from within. Building unshakeable faith in yourself isn’t about never feeling doubt… It’s about showing up anyway, taking small steps, and celebrating your progress along the way. Be kind to yourself, protect your passion, and surround yourself with people who lift you up.

Your voice, your story, and your artistry matter. Keep going… The world needs what only you can bring.
